Lyle Carden has recently become a PHIUS Certified Passive House Consultant. PHIUS has taken old passive building concepts of insulation, airtightness, shading, thermal bridge minimization and ventilation control to developed a multi-disciplinary, performance based, climate specific, system that can improve the energy performance of building by up 4 to 5 times over code based design. Some recent examples, have shown minimal or no cost impact to initial construction cost, as the cost of implementing the PHIUS design and detailing is offset by savings in reduced mechanical equipment demand. The benefits can then be realized for the life of the building.
