Windspeed Design Mapping For Use In the County of Hawaii Building Code
Computational fluid dynamics and wind-tunnel testing were utilized to establish probabilistic windspeed mapping for the Island of Hawaii. Windfield vectoring was included to establish the effect of large land masses altering wind flow direction. This study produced a mesoscale analysis-based wind map of the island. Martin & Chock developed the code provisions necessary for adoption of this method of wind design that has explicit evaluation of topographic amplification and directionality factors for the County of Hawaii Building Code.
